New faecal egg count service

We have just purchased a new machine to run worm egg counts. This means a free cocci count will now also be included with all samples run and we can test for worms, cocci and fluke (including rumen fluke) with most results being available the same day (if brought in before 12pm). Dung samples should be fresh when collected (less than one hour old) and kept cool (not frozen) in an airtight container or plastic bag, before examination or delivery to the practice within 48 hours. If the faeces are too old, some eggs will have hatched and the reported egg count will be an underestimate. Sheep should be healthy and have had full access to pasture and/or feed before sampling, otherwise the FEC will be difficult to interpret.

FEC collection method 1:

  • Each test must be based on at least 10 individual samples.

  • Samples must be taken at random. Do not try to pick and choose.

  • Samples must be of fresh dung.

FEC collection method 2: -

  • Mob samples can be taken either by gathering sheep in the corner of a field for a few minutes, then picking up samples when they move.

  • OR, carry pots/bags when out sheep herding and take a sample as lambs get up. Please give us a call or contact us by WhatsApp +447360545431

Toxovax and Enzovax

We hope to be able to supply you with abortion vaccine this year even though Enzovax is in very short supply nationally. Please contact us to book in rough numbers you will require, to allow us to allocate these doses to you as we will be supplying our farmers on a first come first served basis.

Burwarton Show

We are attending Burwarton Show this year on Thursday the 1st of August. As a result our offices will both be closed. However, our vets will be available to attend urgent and emergency calls by calling either of the office numbers. We hope to see many of you at the show!
